The Chimeras are a "race" in the world of Arknights.
Description[]
“ | Many archives only record this race (Chimera) as this: it can be defined through their different paternal races. They differ in accordance of genealogy and physical features. Since the era of Originium industry amidst this harsh environment filled with Catastrophes, struggles among political regimes cause race-mixing to be nearly impossible. Of course, aside from the usual way of breeding, Chimeras could be created through dangerous methods. If she (Kal'tsit or Amiya?) never lies to me (Recorder). | ” |
—Recorder's archive[1] |
A Chimera is stated to be a "primordial method of bringing two as one."[2] Thus, they are hybrids: individuals exhibiting the characteristics of two distinct (and often unrelated) races, although they physically appear as their dominant paternal (and/or likely original) race.
Chimeras are born from either crossbreeding or artificial means (possibly genetic therapy/modifications and/or cloning), the latter of which is regarded as very dangerous. However, what defines a true "Chimera" from a mere offspring of two individuals of different races is still questionable as interracial relationships are common among Terran nations. In fact, it is still unclear that whether the stated methods above could create a "Chimera".
While not classified as such in-game, the following characters would qualify as Chimeras due to their origins:

As the only confirmed true Chimera, Amiya is also classified as a Cautus and is the only Sarkaz King who is not a true Sarkaz, thus she would be considered a Cautus-Sarkaz Chimera.
Etymology[]
Chimera most likely refers to the eponymous legendary creature with a lion's head, a sheep's body, and a serpent's tail in Greek mythology. The term is also used in biology to refer to an organism made up of more than one distinct genotype.
