Misery is an NPC in Arknights who is first mentioned in The Anonymous Ones' War and is one of the supporting character in Act II of the Main Theme.

Background[]

Stated to be a perpetual pessimist, little is known about Misery's past. However, from Outcast's fabricated "backstory," he seems to be responsible for a bloody incident after he failed to persuade the local inhabitants of a certain town from engaging a war with others, resulting in its massacre and total destruction.[1][2]

Misery is skilled in space manipulation Originium Arts in which he could cast his Arts through his daggers to control space and an object's density (i.e., turning something from hard to soft). His skill with said Arts is powerful enough to cause chaos amongst Manfred's squad and even almost incapacitated Manfred himself.

Main Theme[]

Episode 09[]

After Outcast's sacrifice in County Hillock, Victoria, Misery tells Kal'tsit he will be absent from the next meeting as and asks her to be the leading conductor for Outcast's funeral. He also insists to enter Londinium as soon as possible in order to avenge her. Even though he knows that being controlled by his own emotion is totally wrong, he feels that if they do not act soon, the entire Elite Ops will soon face annihilation by Victoria's royal feud.[2]

Episode 10[]

Misery takes on an active role in Episode 10. After having provided intel to the Glasgow gang,[3] Misery later appears at the abandoned factory-turned-detention center, rescuing Horn's company from Manfred and his Sarkaz soldiers thanks to his Originium Arts.[4]

Though Manfred could see the true nature of his Arts, it was not enough to thwart Misery before the group managed to escape. Later, he appears beside a mortally wounded Mandragora following her confrontation with Manfred, conversing with her and offering her a second chance. When her eyes lie upon him, Mandragora grins, thinking to herself that she has met the true Death. It is unclear whether she ultimately takes his offer or not.[5]

After once more rescuing the cornered Horn squad from Sarkaz mercenaries, as well as rescuing Robben from falling to his death, Misery then helps the Doctor and their allies by altering Manfred's Arts, and finding them a way into the defense gun battery with his own Arts - though Amiya remarks that using large-scale matter transformation Arts so frequently is very taxing on his body.[6]

Intermezzi[]

Under Tides[]

After the incident in Sal Viento, Iberia, Misery is responsible for helping the three Abyssal Hunters return to Rhodes Island.[7] However, along the way, his team encounters an enemy ambush and are forced to delay the journey. Fortunately, the Hunters were willing to lend their aid so that Misery could escape from danger.[8]
