Specter the Unchained is the alternate version of Specter who is a 6★ Dollkeeper Specialist specializing in DPS and Fast-Redeploy, and are only available from the Celebration limited headhunting banners starting from Arknights' fourth anniversary (CN)/the 2023 Gift of the Deep Ones event (Global); until then, she is only available in Abyss Corrosion. Being a limited banner, the "pity" system from other banners are not carried over to Abyss Corrosion. To compensate for that, the Unchained (along with Irene) have a 70% chance to be the 6★ Operator that appears in a pull (instead of other 6★ Operators' 50%), and can be purchased at the Certificate Store for 300 Headhunting Data Contract icon.

Being an alter Operator, the Unchained is subject to the following mechanics:

  • Both Specter and the Unchained shares the same Trust, but have different potential, skills (as well as separate skill upgrades/Mastery training), talent, and base skills (as well as separate morale).
  • Both Specter and the Unchained have their own outfits and dialogues, and are available separately as the player's Assistant.
  • Both Specter and the Unchained can be present in one squad or the RIIC at the same time.

As a Dollkeeper Specialist, when the Unchained's HP is reduced to 0, she is not knocked out, but rather, a "Substitute" of herself (actually Laurentina's old "Specter" persona which takes control when she suffers heavy physical/mental trauma)[1] will take the Unchained's place for 20 seconds, after which she returns to the map in the Substitute's place with full HP. The Substitute is statistically identical to the Unchained and her first talent Embraced Self makes the Substitute deal Arts damage to surrounding enemies every second equal to a portion of the Unchained's ATK and reduces their speed. However, the Substitute cannot block enemies and if it is KO'd, the Unchained will follow suit, meaning she must be redeployed all over again!

The Unchained's skills allow her to capitalize on the use of the Substitute by greatly improving her DPS with disregard to her own survival and allows her to be KO'd sooner than usual so that the Substitute can fight on the Unchained's behalf. Do note that the skill will not be carried over to the Substitute.

  • The first skill, The Skill to Survive, switches the Unchained's current HP percentage with that of the friendly unit with the lowest HP percentage in the surrounding tiles when activated, and buffs her ATK while active.
  • The second skill, The Thirst to Survive, is similar to Specter's Bone Fracture but also buffs the Unchained's ASPD. Unlike Bone Fracture, though, the Unchained will be considered to have her HP reduced to 0 instead of being Stunned when The Thirst to Survive expires (thus she will immediately be switched with her Substitute). Furthermore, unlike Bone Fracture, the Unchained deals more damage to a single enemy instead of two or three. When the skill ends, the Substitute's speed reduction can provide more time for the damage dealers to clear the remaining enemies.
  • The third skill, The Pressure to Survive, buffs the Unchained's maximum HP and ATK, and makes her attacks hit multiple targets equal to her block count, but increases her attack interval while active. In addition, while The Pressure to Survive is active, the Unchained will deal an additional instance of Physical damage equal to a portion of her ATK when she attacks enemies whose HP percentage is above her, but loses some HP if the Unchained attacks enemies whose HP percentage is below her instead. To maintain her HP at a low level, use Aak or Warfarin's Unstable Plasma to drain her HP, then use appropriate healers (Bard Supporters, Gladiia due to her Waves of Ægir, Lancet-2, Lumen, Shining, or Blemishine). The Pressure to Survive is perfect for enemies with very high HP and the "right" amount of output. One may also choose to deploy healers after her HP is low to maximize her damage. The 3% max HP loss itself is trivial, but can be triggered multiple times when attacking multiple enemies who met the condition.

The Unchained's second talent, Ægir's Depths, buffs the maximum HP of Abyssal Hunters Operators (Andreana, Gladiia, Skadi, and the Unchained herself) while she is deployed.

The Unchained has two Operator Modules, one of which improves her Substitute's offensive and crowd-controlling prowess, while the other one further supports her fellow Abyssal Hunters:

  • Her PUM-X Module "Vinyl Record" Box, increases the Substitute's ATK by 15% in addition to increasing the Unchained's maximum HP and ATK; once upgraded, the Substitute's damage and speed reduction is increased, and the Unchained will receive additional SP when she takes the Substitute's place, thus "Vinyl Record" Box works best with her second skill. With the "Vinyl Record" Box' at Stage 3, the Unchained's Substitute deals as much DPS as Ifrit's Scorched Earth and can clear out hordes of enemies without much trouble. As such, this should be her go-to module.
  • Her PUM-Y Module, The Beauty in the Incomplete, increases the Substitute maximum HP by 15% in addition to increasing the Unchained's maximum HP, ATK (though less than "Vinyl Record" Box) and DEF; once upgraded, Ægir's Depths' maximum HP increase is enhanced and it also increases the SP generation rate of Abyssal Hunters Operators. The Beauty in the Incomplete can be more preferred if the player intends to use all Abyssal Hunters Operators to maximize the HP and SP generation rate buff's effectiveness.

The Unchained's first base skill, Specialist Expert α, speeds up the skill Mastery training of Specialist Operators by 30% when she is assigned as a trainer in the Training Room; at Elite 2, it becomes Ægir Tactics which speeds it up further to 65% if the training is for Mastery 3, but the Unchained's second base skill War Fever increases her morale drain rate by 1 per hour if that was the case.

Overall, for her extreme rarity, Specter the Unchained is an excellent Dollkeeper Specialist who can utilize the Substitute to continue fighting even in situations where death is certain to inflict as much damage to the enemy as possible, usually to weaken them for the other Operators. She may no longer be a deranged nun as she were in the past, but Specter the Unchained's sheer refusal to die will be the bane of everyone who dare oppose her.

Pros Cons
  • Will be replaced by a Substitute for 20 seconds when the Unchained's HP is reduced to 0, after which she will return to the map in the Substitute's place with full HP
  • The Substitute periodically deals Arts damage to surrounding enemies and slows them
  • The Skill to Survive switches the Unchained's HP percentage with that of the friendly with lowest HP percentage when used, useful to ensure their survivability and facilitate the use of the Unchained's Substitute
  • The Thirst to Survive
  • The Pressure to Survive is a great DPS skill that temporarily gives her AoE capabilities, especially against enemies with higher HP percentage than the Unchained who will receive additional damage
  • Ægir's Depths buffs the maximum HP of Abyssal Hunters Operators when the Unchained is deployed
  • Only available from the Celebration limited headhunting banners from the 4th anniversary (CN)/2023 Gift of the Deep Ones (Global) and Abyss Corrosion; the Unchained will not be available from any other headhunting banners
  • Has a redeployment cooldown of 70 seconds like regular Operators, despite having the Fast-Redeploy tag
  • The Unchained loses all SP when she swaps into her Substitute, and cannot gain SP while in her Substitute
  • The Unchained's Substitute cannot block enemies (though this can be an advantage since melee enemies will ignore it)
  • The Skill to Survive can be detrimental if used without paying attention to the Operators' HP
  • The Thirst to Survive "sets the Unchained's HP to 0 when it ends", immediately swapping her into her Substitute
  • The Pressure to Survive increases attack interval and drains the Unchained's HP if she attack enemies whose HP percentage is below her
  • The Unchained must be redeployed if the Substitute is KO'd
  • Must be equipped with either modules at Stage 3 to be truly effective; without modules, the Unchained is often worse than base Specter
