The Twin Empresses of Leithanien are NPCs in Arknights. They are first mentioned in Rewinding Breeze before one of the sisters, called the White Empress due to her white/golden color scheme, appears in Lingering Echoes.
Background[]
As the current Kaiserins of Leithanien, the Twin Empresses are viewed as heroines who slew the evil Witch King inside his Spire during the Septemberaufstand of the Kurfürsten and liberated the Leithanians in the year 1077 following the victorious yet disastrous Battle of the Four Emperors. The twin sisters are noted to have two different color schemes and characters: one wearing a white uniform and having golden hairs and curved horns, and the other wearing a black uniform and having black hairs and straight horns (hence called the Black Empress). Their difference in characters resulted in frequent clashes in some issues and cooperation, though it is said that the day when the White and Black Empresses unanimously agree, it's a very significant one.[1][2] Due to their popular support, the Empresses' political power is so immeasurable that even some great powers like Victoria have to pay homage to them. The Empresses also have a band of royal guards known as the "Empresses' Voices" who stays close to them all the time.[3]
Not everyone is supportive of the Empresses, however, especially the so-called Witch King's Remnants. To them, the Empresses are usurpers of the throne who underestimated the King's legitimacy. They even accused them of having shady backgrounds and are responsible for the bloody purge of the King's family, including his distant relatives.[4] In reality, while the purge did happen, the Empresses had tried to rescue some of the innocent relatives from the Remnants' hands, especially the children. On one occasion after sending their forces to dismantle the Remnants' lab, they rescued young Ebenholz, the last descendant of the Witch King's bloodline, brought him into their court, and restored some of his status out of pity. On the other hand, their mercy came with the price of frequent "brainwashing" by the Empresses' fanatical supporters to blindly praise them and they're even involved secret political plots.[5]
Sometime in the future, it is mentioned that one of the Twin Empresses had "lost her voice" amidst the chaos across Terra following Victoria's succession crisis and a potential revolution in Ursus.[6] By the events of Lingering Echoes, only the White Empress that appear, thus it is likely that the Black Empress is the "muted" one.

Lingering Echoes[]
Following the Vyseheim incident, one of the Empresses' servant reports the event to the White Empress. The Empress then received the full record of the lost "Voice of Terra" played during Czerny's concert. While listening, she feels entranced by the melody and appreciates Czerny's talent, though she also said that he still needs more improvement.[7]
